Our newest Chipata distributor, Horizon Motor Spares. Over the past two weeks we have been training up the Horizon team on our products and providing starting stock with supporting marketing materials - including our snazzy new SunnyMoney t-shirts pictured! There has already been a large amount of interest from customers, and discussions have begun in regards to expanding our product range to their shops in other locations in Eastern Province.

Apologies for the drought in updates during the past two weeks, it has been an incredibly busy time for the Zambia team. In addition to delivering products to zones, we have been setting up and supporting our new stockists in Chipata and have returned to Lusaka to assist in feeding into plans for the upcoming financial year. The team has also been busy scheduling the final deliveries for 2012, which will cover all of our zones in Chipata, Chadiza and Katete - over 400 schools in total!
As for numbers, we sold 1000 products over the past two weeks, bringing the total sold for our Eastern Province operations to 4400! We estimate a further 1000 sales next week - that’s a lot of lights, and a lot of individuals, families and business benefitting from clean affordable and appropriate energy!

Stella Mbewe at her shop in Mafuta village, Chipata. Stella recently bought a PowaPack 5W solar product to light her shop and home. Stella’s light is saving money on disposable batteries and allows her to operate the shop effectively during the hours of darkness.
It’s been a record breaking month for SunnyMoney Zambia! In October the Eastern Province team sold 2600 solar products during the schools campaign, bringing the total number of sales for Zambia for the month to 4300. We are projecting even larger sales for November, with the Eastern Province and Lusaka teams both running full tilt across nine districts.

Maize Husk Fire on Flickr.
Last night I travelled to Mafuta village to document families using our SunnyMoney solar lights. Many people in the village use open fires as their main lighting source. In this image you can see a family burning maize husks for light.
I will be uploading images of my Mafuta trip over the next few days. Watch this space!
